Carolyn said: I must say I don't use Twitter, but in my uninformed opinion,
to look out at the audience while I'm lecturing to see various people
twittering away would make me, as a lecturer, feel as if those people were
not paying attention, making eye contact, interacting, as much as I would
like. I don't know, but I'd prefer to see each person in the audience with
their eyes glued to me and my slide presentation, being in the "now" and
devoting all their attention to what I'm offering! >>

I agree! Eye contact in teaching (lecture/discussion/etc.) can make all the
difference! If you're not looking at me I have no idea if I'm getting the
point across or if I need to stop and explain further. The expression on
your face and in your eyes often sets the pace and tone.
The advent of the cell phone, the blackberry/etc., has made for somewhat
lesser good manners.
