Nancy don't know where Paul and Clyde has got to I sure do miss them they was
so much help on the list and could send us to sites that we would have never
found out about without their help, no matter what the subject was they would
find us an answer.
Corn pone I think you are talking about a corn bread mixture that is made up
real thick and put thin in the pan and baked. It has a very hard and tasty
crust, very good with a glass of milk that has been cooling in the spring are
the well what ever was around to keep things cold. My mother made a fried
corn bread I think people called them flitters they were real good when you
didn't want to bake but with a wood burning or coal cook stove it was so hot
to stand there and fry them.
I still make them like Mom did but I have a gas stove and the oven is shut
off, and I still complain about standing there and flipping them over. I have
trouble finding flour that isn't self rising for my home made fresh bread
done with yeast. I wonder if you can still buy baking powder? I believe that
was the secret of success in making the homemade biscuits and cornbread.
