There is a nice map of sites connected to the WBTS available from the
Arkansas Historic Preservation Program, 1500 Tower Building, 323 Center
Street, Little Rock, AR, 72201. Their site is www.arkansaspreservation.org
and you can email .
I spent the afternoon there, Friday, and found the obituary of my
gggrandfather. It said he was born in St. Louis, MO, and a Confederate
veteran but I can not find him on ANY roster. He went by H.F. Christy or
Christie depending on circumstances and I guess if the revenuers were after
him. I did find a James F. H. Christy but don't know if that was him. He
claimed to be (also depending on circumstances) from MS, St. Louis, MO,
Germany and who-knows-where else. Sometimes his parents were from NY and KY,
sometimes from Germany. He said the H.F. stood for Hiram Frederick. A great
aunt stopped her research when she reportedly found a connection with
Quantrill's Raiders but I haven't seen him on any roster or their
membership, either, and I've seen extremely long rosters.
I did find a Hiram Christy born about the right time, in IN, to a father who
was also named Hiram. Several of his children bore given names reflecting
those of individuals in this family, but the Hiram Christy who was in the
21st Maine was Hiram SAM Christy, not Hiram Frederick, and H.S. is listed
with his family in Illinois at the same time Hiram Frederick is listed in
AR, so I don't see how they could possibly be the same person.
If anyone has any ideas of where else I might find where he is listed as a
Confederate soldier, I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks!
