Hello everyone!
This evening I have something most wonderful to share! I have always been a
supporter of AETN/PBS because of their wonderful programming. And, having
grown up in Hot Springs, I thought I knew quite a bit about the town, and
it's history.
OH, how wrong I was! AETN is now airing the most wonderful program entitled
"City of Visitors: The Story of Hot Springs", and I do believe it is the
best show I have watched in many years! (Only to be rivaled by their show
they did here a while back on Hoxie, (Lawrence County) Arkansas "Hoxie: the
first stand" Hoxie, being my husbands hometown.)
"City of Visitors: The Story of Hot Springs" is "the story of how Hot
Springs developed as a town with a split personality. It's the story of the
people who made the city one of the most glamorous health treatment centers
in the country, as well as the largest illegal gambling operation in the
U.S. And it's the story of the people who forced the city to change." And,
for the 2 hours that it aired, I was "star-struck"! lol
This film is produced/written/and edited by DALE CARPENTER a documentary
filmmaker and Associate Professor of Journalism at the University of
Arkansas, and features stories told by the wonderful likes of folks such as
Wendy Richter, Bobbie McLane, Orval Allbritton, and a host of many others.
For those of you who live here in Arkansas, I would suggest seeing it (in
Central Arkansas, it airs again this Saturday (Aug. 13, 2005) at 2:30 p.m.
and 11:30 p.m. CDT For you out-of-staters, hopefully, it will air sometime
on your local PBS, or it is available from the AETN.org website here
http://www.aetn.org/hotsprings/index.html
Ms. Righter, Ms. McLane, and all others, I have always admired you for all
you have done for Arkansas' local history......now, I humbly bow, thanking
you all, for a job well done!
Take Care,
Diana
