The court house with the jail and the gallows are still there and have been renovated for all those who care to tour it. Judge Parkers court room is in it's original state, or as close as they could get it. The court house is packed full of history and a wonderful place to visit. It sits on the bluff of the river and you can just feel the history of the beautiful surroundings.

> Ft. Smith, Ark., Sept. 19. -- Acting under orders of the government United States Marshal Mayes Tuesday morning finally closed the United States jail in this city; the last of the federal jails in the country outside the capital. The jail is a relic of border days and in its early history housed the eighty-eight outlaws hung under the regime of the famous hanging Judge Parker.
> When closed it housed but one convict and four prisoners awaiting trial for bootlegging.
