Among those from here who attended a pie supper at Walnut Grove School last
Friday evening were Misses Lavada ERVIN, Isobelle, Essie and Versa VINES,
Fauniel CANTWELL, Haley and Velma CLARKSON, Ulys ERVIN, Leon CANTWELL and Roy
and Raymond RICE. (White)
The pie supper at Richwoods School was a grand success. Miss Dora WIEDEMAN,
one of the eighth grade graduates, won the beauty contest and received a
cake, Dave LINCOLN won the freckled foot contest and received a big bar of
soap. Joe MABRY received a beautiful silk bedspread. Proceeds amounting to
$13.00 go to the school to sponsor a community Christmas tree. (Richwoods)

Arthur YORK, Jr., was host to several of his friends with a birth anniversary
party in his home last Friday afternoon. Games were played and Billy REED won
first prize in a guessing contest. Christmas candies, nuts, hot chocolate and
birthday cake were served to Elmer SMITH, Billy MAGEE, Carl WHITLEDGE,
Charles POWELL, Charles REED, Clenna PRIDE, Judith MOTSINGER and Marguerite
Ann HICKS.
J.A. HEFNER of Qulin, Missouri, who owns and operates seven stores in
Southeast Missouri, opened his eighth store in Corning, first of last week,
purchasing the stock and fixtures of The Corning Market, formerly operated
by H.E. NISSWONGER. Cecil DALTON of Rector is manager of the new store which
carries a general merchandise line.
Mrs. Sophie PARK was pleasantly surprised Sunday when a number of relatives
arrived at her home to spend the day and celebrate her birth anniversary. At
the noon hour a dinner was served. Present were:
Mr. and Mrs. O.H. TAYLOR, Mr. and Mrs. W.T. GARLAND and children, Corning;
Mr. and Mrs. John PENTER and daughter and son, Pocahontas.
