Our Bible Study Hour was well attended last Sunday
evening when Aunt Betty CHEEK was leader and a beautiful
quartet number was rendered by Mr. and Mrs. A.
N.JOHNSON, Elder J.M. STEPHENS and J.O. NISWONGER.
Hubert BROWN called on Herbert JOHNSON last week to hear
radio music. (Landmark)
The MYERS family occupies a house that the Dave HASKINS
family recently vacated.
Saturday afternoon, January 9, four-year-old Jewell
HOWERTON, son of Mr. and Mrs. Abe HOWERTON, died in his
home here. His services were conducted by Reveredn SAGE
and burial in Richwoods Cemetery.
A number of young people enjoyed a play party last
Thursday evenng and Miss BLACHE HUDSON.
The G.W. BREWER family first of this week removed to
another of T.W. WYNN's farms, just across the road from
where they formerly resided. We are glad they are not
leaving this community.
Mrs. Glenn KIMBALL entertained several local young
people with a party on Wednesday evening popping corn,
roasting peanuts and listening to radio music.
Marcel an Albert DAVIS are new pupils of this school.
Ours school is proud of the beautiful portrait-posters
of General George WASHINGTON, which we received from
United States George WASHINGTON Bicentennial Commission.
We have them framed for preservation and they hang as
permanent displays in our classrooms.
A St. Valentine party was given for those children of
the first four grades last Friday afternoon by their
teacher, Mrs. Herman NISWONGER. Forty-two little boys
and girls enjlyed valentine games and contests. Prizes
were won by Abe HOWERTON,Jr. and Dorothy Mae LESTER.
After the games, valentines were exchanged and
refreshments served. (Blue)
Last Monday our school celebrated the George WASHINGTON
bicentennial. The school rooms were appropriately
decorated. A large, draped protrait of WASHINGTON, with
flags, posters and borders formed the decoration. The
following program was given: Song, "America",
Scripture, "The Lords Prayer", Recitation, "WASHIGNTON's
Birthday", Naomi FRENCH; "Three Little Sisters",
Vivadean HUDSON; Tribute to the flag and a song, pupils
of first four grades; Reading, "A True Soldier", Mrs.
H.E. NISWONGER. Mrs. NISWONGER gave a talk on
WASHINGTON's later years. Other features of the program
were the hoisting of the flag and the planting of trees.
following this, the women of Blue Community home
demonstration club planted a walnut tree on the school
grounds as a memorial to George WASHINGTON. This program
was given, "Come to the Planting", march to scene of
planting, the planting, Song of welcome by the children,
Dedication, Mrs. Mabel POND, club president.
We are proud of the new flag pole which our school board
and patrons erected on the school grounds last Monday.
It was ready for the hoisting of the flag,in honor of
George WASHINGTON. The Blue School Board and patrons
noted for the service and cooperation which they give
their school. We thank them again for the flag pole.
After planting the club tree, Professor and Mrs.
NISWONGER, Fred KIMBALL, Glenn KIMBALL, James WILLS and
two Boy Scouts, Earl CRAFTONa and Bill POND set out
shade trees on the school campus. (Moark)
