A family bible left to me by my father seems to have been orignally owned by Judge Henry Cockrum and his wife Rutha Johnson Cockrum. The front pages, now loose and damaged, contain handwritten entries recording several marriages, the births of thirteen children to Henry and Rutha, and many of their deaths. With help from other sources I have managed to decipher most of the information. One unambiguous entry shows Cave Cockrum’s middle name to be Johnson, his mother’s maiden name. Many dates are clear and some disagree with previously published information. The pages also include detail on the family of their son Mordaki Cockrum, and a few entries about the family of his daughter, Mack Dona Cockrum Berry, my grandmother.
