Linda - What Kennedy line do you have? My Kennedy line ties in with
the Shelton family from the White Oak / Staves / Y area.

I am Lynda Childers Suffridge that Mr. Wilkie is writing about. I am
descended from Greenville Childers and Elizabeth Melton who moved to Saline
Township of what was then Dallas County but is now Cleveland County,
Arkansas
from Cherokee County, Alabama about 1854. Greenville and Elizabeth married
in Perry County, Alabama, and appear on the 1840 Census of Perry County,
Alabama with one child. In the 1850 Census, they are in Cherokee County,
Alabama. By the 1860 Census they are in Dallas County, Arkansas. Land
records indicate they arrived in 1854.

This seems like a good opportunity to invite anyone who has ancestors from
the Saline township area of Cleveland County to attend the Kennedy/Canada
Cemetery Reunion that happens the third Thursday in October each year. It
will be on October 19th, 2000! Bring your own lawn chairs and food to eat.

A camera is a good idea, too. There is no one to contact, just show up. To

reach the cemetery: On Highway 167 five miles north of Fordyce turn east
[right if you are coming from Fordyce, left is you have driven down from
Little Rock or Sheridan], go about 2.1 miles then turn left for .7 miles,
turn right on W. Burford Road for .2 miles turn left on Alex Smith Road 1.2
miles. It is located at Section 20, Township 8 South, Range 12 West.

Names of some of the families buried there include: Childers, Burford,
Banks, Carter, Cheshier, Cearley, Finley, Gage, Garlington, Garner, Green,
Hasty, Kauffman, Kennedy, Land, Lee, Mahaffey, Martin, McAllister, Morgan,
Porter, Ramsey, Russell, Shields, Smith, Summerville, Swayze, Tipton,
Treadwell, Wallingford, West, Wilson, Wolfe, Wood, Wright.
