Remedies of my family the Gladneys in 1875:

Recipe for colds:
1 tablespoon of molasses
2 tablespoon of castor oil
1 teaspoon of paregoric
1 teaspoon of spirits of camphor

Mix and take often:
He noted a cure for rheumatism also:
1/2 oz. pulverized salt peter dissolved
in 1/2 pint of sweet oil.
Bathe the painful parts in the mixture.

A remedy for sore eyes was easy to prepare:
"Steep a handful of maple bark
in a cup of water.
Wash eyes in water several times a day."

Hope they are (?)helpful (?) :-)
