James D. CHAPMAN:
James was born Nov 1858 in Mississippi, and married 18 Aug 1895 in
Crawford Co. Mary Albina LAYMAN. His household appeared on the 1930
census of Van Buren, Crawford Co., Arkansas, as "Jim Chatman." It
shows his birthplace as Mississippi, his father's as Alabama, and his
mother's as Georgia. On the earlier 1900 and 1910 censuses of Lees
Creek, Crawford Co., his name was listed as James D. Chapman. The
1910 census shows that Mary Albena was his his second wife, and that
she then had 6 children, 4 still living. We don't know anything
about his earlier marriage.
William H. CHAPMAN:
Nearby James CHAPMAN on the 1900 census was the household of William
H. Chapman and wife Letitia and children. William was age 45 born
Mississippi, his father's birthplace listed as Georgia and his
mother's as Alabama. Surely William and James were
brothers. Indeed, that is confirmed by the 1860 census of Panola
Co., Mississippi where William and James are shown with with their
mother and some siblings. Unfortunately that census used mostly
initials for the names.
We have never established the parents nor all the siblings names for
James and William. Any help will be appreciated.
