Hi List:
I'm looking for any information you might have on a
Mr. A. O. Loring of Salem, Ark.
He was evidently a roaming artist. I have located a wonderful pencil and
chalk picture he drew of my great great grandfather's old home place which is
located at Koshkonong, MO which is near Thayer, MO. (Howell or Oregon County,
MO)
That would be the home place of Milas P. "Pink" Pressley and the picture
would have been drawn probably around 1900 - 1915. We just don't know for
sure.
I've had several copies made of the original drawing now so that other family
members can have one too.
The picture is signed "A. O. Loring, Salem, Ark."
According to family story -- Mr. Loring came through the area, sat up on a
hill across from the home place and drew the picture. Then my great great
grandfather paid him an amount of money for the picture which is approx. 14 X
16" . It has retained the colors but has become very very brittle. I'm
so happy we have a negative and copies of it to preserve for future
generations. (By the way, the old home is still there.)
If any of you have any info. on this artist, could you please let me know. I
would be so appreciative.
Thanks,
