Hi!
I noticed the Sarah Wood and was wondering if you had anything on
Amanda Charlotte Wood, (born either 1864 or 1867 either MO or AR --
later census list both places along with TN) sometimes listed Woods?
Supposedly she was with relatives in Izard County (along with her
brother Thomas) when she gave birth to my grandfather in 1882 in
Calico Rock, Izard County. His name was Robert Walter Wardman Rivers.
The father had the same name minus the Robert. I do not believe they
were married as we have traced the father, who would have been 40 and
married at the time and (according the family legend) Amanda would be
15. However her death record has her older, so if that is correct she
would have been 18). Amanda said they were married and before the
baby was born his horse came back alone and the next day she read in
the paper that he was killed by the James Gang and that he was their
doctor. I note Jesse James died in 1882 so perhaps that is where she
got that. Our research on Walter Wardman Rivers does not support a
death in 1882, the year my grandfather was born. Possibly they were
with the Staggs family as I found an Amanda and Thomas Woods in 1880
as boarders with the Green Staggs family in Fulton County, AR.
Any information you may have on these people would be appreciated.
Thank you.
Charlotte
