Uncertainty sure abounds.
JJ says 1758-1844 in one place.
Carroll Book 1759 - 1843
Tombstone 1759 - 1843

Thats really too close to bicker over. That is sort of strange though when
you get done and scrutinize it. JJ wrote his notebook about 1895. JJ born
1818. Well, don't have a death date for JJ, but he was alive in 1895 to
write his journal. Anyway, my point is, wouldn't he have attended the
funeral of James (he would have been 25 yrs old at the time.) Why in the
world would he write 52 years later (from James death) that the dates were
1758 -1844 ???? If he couldn't remember the dates at the writing, seems
like he could have just gone down and read them off the tombstone. Doesn't
make sense unless he didn't agree with the tombstone. Or, maybe the
tombstone wasn't there in 1895, or was a different one. 52 years on some
tombstones (from James' death to JJ writing), it might not have been
readable. Interesting. Also, one other thought. They might have been
remembering James birth and death date by using like the "winter of 58"
(1758) in which case one could interpret as either 1758 or 1759. We may
never know any particular year. I wonder if any Bible Records with James on
it have survived and the date entered the year he was born. Really, I am
rather comfortable with either one. Would be interesting to hear Carroll's
opinion on it and if there was any particular document that made him like
the 1759 - 1843 dates above anything else he ran across. Veeeery fine
point, but interesting.

That sure seems to be the overwhelming consensus. Got some pretty good
evidence now to safely assume that is going to be accurate.

On the latest, TJ has indicated that Thomas Culp (daddy as opposed to Doc)
also raised a family in KY. Lets see, ah er ah, yes by JJ's writings. No,
wait a minute, I cannot say for sure JJ's writtings or if from just
something TJ knew. On TJ's post, she is summarizing JJ's writings/hitting
the high points we needed, I cannot tell if she was through interperting
JJ's writing and went on to say they raised a family from her research or
if it was a part of JJ's writing. Well, either way you look at it, a
family did get raised in KY that was Thomas'. Couldn't say at all that
they would have been Sarah Scott's either. Hopefully TJ knows.

And from the 1850 Census mwhendrixson sent (thank you)

Didn't miss many kids on the 1850 census (from what Carroll has compilied
in book). That looks to be unanimous. My Sams kids are Culp kids (on the
chart). And, daddy Thomas is gone. Assume dead?????? hmmmmm! Thats
interesting. I would have thought that even if Thomas Sr. (daddy) had been
on a trip somewhere, Levina (or however) would have told census takers his
name to be included. Maybe not.

Ohhh, waait a minute. Something else in the census. Says Lavina was born
in KY!!!! YES!!! The James branch did migrate through KY!!!! YES!!! YES!!!
YES!!! Lets see, she was 52, that puts the James branch in KY in 1798. Oh
MY!!!! Syntha -daughter of Old Jesse (James of VA brother)- was born 1797
in KY. OHHHH but I want those locations. REAL BAD, do I want them. I
cannot remember which way the Old Jesse branch was migrating. Did the
James branch migrate from KY to TN or from TN to KY. Donnie, help me on
this one. Didn't our Old Jesse branch migrate through Knoxville, Knox
county TN like the James branch did??? Which way was we a goin, if we did?
Smoke's a rollin from ole Doug's ears. Mice on the treadmill in his ole
head refuse to budge another inch. Almost took out the third fuse for today.
Veeery interesting.

Uh OH. Thats not a good sign. But, I think we are still going to be able
to put the family back together. That's a good lead. If anyone runs
across these dates, make sure to snatch them up (and source.)

Doug cracks the whip, but the mice still won't budge.
Opps, wait a minute, one of their legs quivered. From the 1850 Census, his
youngest child Letty, born 1846. Daddy Tom not on the 1850 census. Died
between 1846 and 1850 ????? Poof blew a fuse. Tread lightly on 1848, but
its gonna be close. Maybe. Lots of loose ends a hanging, don't think we
have reached a condition for an accurate though, not yet.

Lets see, Lavina and Thomas were married in (o come on mice, I am almost
through) in 1817 Illinois, Union Co.. Thats so very close. Born in the
winter of 16 - puts him close to 1817 - on the other end of 16. Opps -
mice just fainted on that one - can't tell if it was from exhaustion- or...
ahhhh OH my. Will for sure need more accurate dates on that one.
Sometimes, it aint too good to be a goin and gittin too acrit.
Yes, it would be interesting to find out if this was our Doc. T.B. Culp =
Doc???? Anyone.

Ohhhh most definetly helps. Second real good trip for today. Think I am
goin to have to call it a day, take the mice to the emergency room, go buy
some more fuses, kick back and vegitate in front of the TV. Mama gets paid
today, goin to the store and git some vitals, kids are a gettin excited
bout that. Will try and make the updates on the chart tomorrow for this
weekend (from last Friday to this). Regina Weaver has posted some real
accurate dates for her branch on the Eda Jeffery-John Milligan branch.
Thanks, Regina!!! Slowly by surely, inch by grueling inch, we do approach
accuracy. And to think, we might see it in our generation. Only makes me :)

Thanks a bunch gang,
Doug Leonard
