Good morning, list!!

Here's what I found from "Early Arkansas Residents: Tax Lists of the
Counties of Arkansas and Lawrence in the Territory of Missouri 1814 -
1816", compiled by Dr. Marion Stark Craig.

In the Editor's intro, written by James Logan Morgan, he states that
Arkansas County was created by an act of the Missouri territorial
legislature passed December 31, 1813, and that Lawrence County was created
by an act approved January 15, 1815. Before that, they were both parts of
New Madrid County, Missouri territory. And, as you all well know, the
territory of Arkansas was created in 1819.

There is also a map of the layout of the two counties as they were, and
what parts of Arkansas they cover that I can scan and send to
individuals...HOWEVER!! **Please contact me privately at ,
put the word "MAP" in your subject, and let's not clutter the archives with
a bunch of "me, too" type messages, please.**

I'll start this census list this morning, and we'll see how far I can get
before I have to get ready to go to work...
