What Edward Ball did was research and write for three years. He did uncover
that his ancestors who were large slaveholders in the Charleston area.....had
fathered MANY mixed race children and Edward literally traced them, the
descendants.....to their homes today.
An odd note, that none of the White Balls would admit to the improperities,
but virtually every Black Ball decendant knew full well who their White male
ancestor was.
I went to the seminar, because I have not only found Black slaveowners in my
Smothers family, but Black Smothers relatives.....so, a similiar situation
for me exists, as it did for Edward Ball and I am sure for a great deal of
southern familes that owned slaves. Edward Ball's ancestors owned numerous
plantations, unlike my Smothers family and the Ball descendants that are
Black number close to 100,000 today.
Great book, full of historical persuasions and I couldn't put it down.
Highly recommend it.....
