Dear Sonia,
It's a wonderful feeling to locate a family member. You have provided
information here that I have longed for -- for a long time. All of it is
great, but there are a couple of absolute gold nuggets in here for me:
Our common ancestor is John Adam Walker -- I didn't know his wife's name was
Elizabeth Hood. This is a huge find for me. And to get John Adam's
parent's names is something I could only dream of.
Regarding Civil War... I can tell you that there were 5 Walkers in Freeman's
Regiment of the Missouri Cavalry -- a.k.a. Arkansas Cavalry.
Walker, Hartwell B. - CO F - Pvt. - Izard Co. Ark. (my ggg-grandfather)
Walker, James - CO E - Pvt. - Izard Co. Ark.
Walker, John A. - CO F - Pvt. - Izard Co. Ark.
Walker, William M. - CO F - Pvt. - Izard Co. Ark.
Walker, Christopher G. - CO F - Pvt. - Izard Co. Ark.
Arkansas was one of the first Southern states to grant pensions to
ex-Confederate servicemen and their widows. According to the "Arkansas
Confederate Veterans and Widows Pension Applications", Christopher G. Walker
applied for a pension on August 13, 1915. The annual payment amount at that
time was $25.00. Christopher deceased on January 19, 1931 and Della filed
for her pension on January 31 of that year.
Cousin Sonia -- so nice to find you. I look forward to sharing more soon.
Take care.
Jeff Walker
