As far as we Smith researchers know, she was a Hightower by birth. I
checked my notes and there is a suspicion that she was a Patton. I know
that the first marriage that I have her a record of was to a Stith and that
was in 1840. So, there was certainly room for another marriage, don't you
think? And this woman was married quite a few times!

This is my father's Smith line that ended up in Randolph Co.,
Arkansas........so, it has always been interesting to me - this Adeline
Hightower.

Adeline and her Jolley husband were found in 1880 with a Chambers orphan in
their home. My ggrandmother; Eliza Jane Smith Moore had a sister; Minerva
Smith that was married to a Chambers. We know that she was basically named
to be insane and did not raise her children. She lived most of her life
with her brother; Spenser Smith and his wife; Sarah Arnold - who by the way
was from Izard Co., Arkansas!

Minerva Smith's Chambers husband; a CSA veteran died enroute to Texas circa
1873. The 1870 census showed them living apart and each with a twin son.
They must have reunited at some point, because a daughter; Mary was born
circa 1872 and that is the orphan found in the Joseph Jolley and Adeline
Hightower home in 1880.

But, this Jolley husband had a daughter from his first marriage that was
married to one of my Smiths, too. So, the whole scenario is as interesting
and confusing as my Izard Co. Smiths. But, everytime I see this Adeline
Hightower in my notes, I wonder about her and her origins.
