That was so SAD the way they tore those children away from everything that was familiar and known to them, and set them down in a foreign world~~~Jean in Tx

That's it! The Chilocco Indian School. Yes, that was it. Glad you have
some brain cells - because I sure don't. But, you all already knew that,
didn't you?

This school was like early Bacon College and Carlisle (sp) Indian School in
Pennsylvania. Federal govenrment convinced (?) the parents of Indian
children in Oklahoma that it was for the best interest of their offspring if
they would pull them out of their various native environments and be placed
in a White world. Forget the languages, forget the native church and live
White.

Of course, my mother was raised by a White mother; Nancy Emma Blankinship of
Izard Co. But, I can tell you that once we lived in Tulsa - mother attended
native church and probably like many of you from mixed blood backgrounds; I
was raised with many, many Indian ways. Mannerisms, food, religion,
etc......... that I did not even realize that were native at the time. I
thought everyone was raised like I was! LOL

Thanks for the brain cells, Bud. For the life of me; couldn't recall the
name - but, it was Chilocco Indian School. I bet we could unearth some
"interesting" records from the federal government from these various
"removal schools," don't you think?
