Hello to Rick in Tulsa -- from Peggy now in Texas!

I'm working from book, "Descendants of Joseph WHITELEY, Sr., and his Descendants in America, 1751 - 1990," by now deceased Dorris {Easley} ESTES, published 1990.

Martha LAWRENCE (b. ? - d. bet. 1830 -1840, Jackson County, AL) m. Jesse MAINARD / MAYNARD [said to be full blood Cherokee]. It is thought that Martha {LAWRENCE} MAYNARD in 1840 census in household of her daughter lucy and husband, Samuel WHITELEY.

Martha LAWRENCE and Jesse MAYNARD are parents of Jesse MAYNARD, II, Henry MAYNARD, George MAYNARD, and Lucy MAYNARD (b. bet. Sept. - Oct. 1798, TN, d. 24 February 1860, Newton County, AR [1860 Mortality Schedule].

About 1817, Lucy MAYNARD married Samuel WHITELEY (b. October 1797, Russell County [now Scott County], VA - d. 11 October 1864, Newton County, AR). Some descendants of Samuel and Lucy {MAYNARD} WHITELEY applied for and received Indian rights (Indian Territory).

Do you have a Henry LAWRENCE in your records? Would you know if your LAWRENCE ancestors might have been in same area in Alabama?

" ... It may have been about this time (bet. 1818 -1820), Samuel and Lucy moved to the Northern District of Jackson County, Alabama East of 4th Range, near the Cherokee Indian Reservation. They settled on some public land and built a log house and improvements. Also living in East of 4th Range in same area was George MAYNARD, Jesse MAYNARD (Jesse, Jr. ?); and Henry MAINORD (sp.), brothers of Lucy. There was also a Henry LAWRENCE, relation unknown. The above "MAYNARD" brothers had been in McMinn County, Tennessee on 3 June 1820 when they signed a petition concerning Cherokee Land purchase. ..."

Some MAYNARDs in Baxter County, where Maynard Bend is named for the family. Bernie and I, among many others, seek information on MAYNARDs as they are connected to COCKRUM family.

Just thought I'd run this by you, Rick. We never know ... as Bernie would say.

Peggy
