Hello, Izardites!
This list always makes me chuckle and like my bulldog always keeps me
smiling, no matter how far I get away.
BettyBB and I were just talking about these books offlist in relation to
making sure this historical reading is available in local libraries and schools. I
know that Calico library has a soft bound copy but I had ordered a copy of
Brooks's Hill Folks: History of Arkansas Ozarkers and Their Image to be
hardbound for the Calico Library. I have done a number of special interest books be
done that way and given to the local libraries, especially in memory of dear
relatives that have died. It is such a more lasting tribute for their memory.
Reading materials about our Ozarks are great gifts to any library!
Love this list!

Another book in that series that you may find interesting, if
you have not read it, is "Life in the Leatherwoods", an
autobiography by John Quincy Wolf. Wolf wrote of his
childhood and youth, growing up in the area across the
river from Calico Rock (the Leatherwoods) and of his
education and move to Batesville where he was a
succesful businessman and educator. The book was
revised and reprinted (with the assistance of his widow)
in 2000 by Brooks Blevins and Gene Hyde. It makes
fascinating reading for anyone interested in life and
customs in that era. It is available at some of the same
sources I quoted earlier......harold b
