Calico Rock Progress - Mar 16, 1923 - Another Death Here.
Mr Lee Shipman an aged and well known citizen of this place died at
his home in East Calico Rock last Wednesday night at near twelve o'clock.
His death occurred after an illness of only a few days as a result of
chronic kidney and bladder ailment, from which he had been a sufferer for
several years and which has of late caused a rapid decline in his physical
condition. He was subject to frequent attacks from his ailment and the
seriousness of his condition has been realized for some time.
Deceased was born in Indiana 65 years ago, having spent the early part
of his life in that state. When quite young he learned the trade of a marble
worker, which trade he has followed nearly all of his life. He was located
at points in southeast Missouri a number of years. He moved from that
section to Calico Rock in 1911 and opened a marvel shop here, which he has
operated ever since. Mr Shipman was married twice, his first wife preceding
him in death by several years. He is survived by his second wife and the
following children: Cleveland, Eber, Vanard, Samantha and Sam of this place
and Roy of Syracuse, New York.
Deceased was favorable known to a large number of friends and
acquaintances in this section, all of whom knew him as a true type of friend
and a law abiding citizen. He bore his afflictions with remarkable patience
and fortitude.
Burial took place in the Calico Rock Cemetery today under direction of
the Odd Fellows Lodge at this place. (Note: Lee Shipman is buried in the
Roselawn Cemetery 1858-1923)
