Just teasing, but seriously - amazing to read what you found for Rick.

I have to tell you all a story - can't use names, though.

When I lived in Tulsa, I did estate sales; when time permited. An old
friend asked me if I could help her - seems that an aunt of hers from her
first marriage had passed away. My friend and the aunt had both married
into a VERY wealthy, old oil money family there in Tulsa..

And you all know the monies involved in oil, right?

Seems that the poor woman was a widow, had gone to buy groceries, came home,
laid down on the couch and quietly passed away. This was in 1991. I had
never met the deceased before - just heard of her through my friend. Seems
that my friend and her adult son would frequently go by and check on her.

When they had not heard from her in time, the adult son goes to check the
house and finds her in the living room

Seems that the widow died intestate, also.

I helped my friend clean out the family home in an older, upscale
neighborhood in Tulsa. We could not toss anything, folks without first
checking it out throughly. We found loose diamonds in drawers, in the
kitchen cupboards, in the piano - you name it.

My friend told me during all this work that the aunt had married the wealthy
man as a second marriage. Said that the aunt told her that she had never
had children and that her only brother had died in World War I, in France.

No heirs. None. Nada.

My friend and I, as I said - went to work cleaning the home.

In the servant's quarters were two, very large, locked travel trunks from
the 1920s. What did we find inside?

Baby clothes. Anouncements revealing the birth of a daughter to this
widowed aunt in her younger days and with her first husband. Congratulatory
cards.

She had had a daughter; but we could find no death notice, no burial
information. Nothing revealed the death of a child in Oklahoma with the
surname and linking her to her first marriage.

We did find a divorce decree.

So, the lawyers took over and began to investigate and the first thing that
they did was hire a genealogist. After that? A private investigator.

What did they find?

Basically, the older brother to the deceased had in fact, not died in
France. He died in the state pen in Arizona. The charge? Murder.

More?

The older brother had married at some point, it appears and he had a son.
This son?

He also was currently in the state pen in Arizona from drug charges.

Bottom line is this.............

The nephew inherited EVERYTHING.

He had never heard of the fact that he had a wealthy aunt that lived in
Tulsa, Oklahoma. Never in his life.

As an inmate.............he was now a very wealthy man.

Now, the question is this?

What do you think that he did with his windfall? LOL

My point is this.

As we all try to piece together the lives of our ancestors................we
would probably be amazed that if we had a paper trial; what we would
unearth. Don't you think?

I have kept a few papers of my parents'. Some of it seems silly to keep to
many. My father's lease for the pecan groves that I grew up on, in Rogers
County, Oklahoma. Correspondences from the gentleman that owned that land
and was living in California in 1960. Receipts from a hotel that my parents
leased in 1962. All these papers showed that my parents had failed at both
endeavors.

That is history, folks. My family's history.

So, keep some of these things in mind for the sake of our own descendants.
No matter how simple they may seem or what results they
reveal.............they are important to those that will be piecing our
lives together a generation or two down the line.
