<Right now I am trying to collect any and all info on the Marlin family,>
Yes, this family is a puzzle, and partly because we have too many
people with the same name.
I had suspected there were two Thomas' for some time, but you confirmed
it when you found both of them in 1880, one in Sharp and one in Izard.
The one who was in 1870 Bedford, 1880 Sharp and 1900 Sharp and was married
to America was born in 1842 or 1843. The other was Thomas K who was born about
1847-48 and was married to Frances Ann.
We also obviously have two Josiah's, one born about 1820-21 and one born about 1846.
One of them was probably the son of Abner H. and Nancy (Blakely) Marlin. Since Nancy
was born about 1823 (1870 and 1880), she obviously could not have been the mother
of the one born in 1820.
I have found Abner Marlin in the 1860 Census of Rutherford County TN (Millersburg) as
a 50 yr old, with wife N.A. (?) age 38. This Census lists 13 children, most of them with
initials instead on names. I'm not real good at deciphering this old handwriting, so had
to guess, maybe someone else would like to take a crack at it.
Then he is in the 1870 Census of Bedford County TN (Shelbyville), at age 61 with Nancy (47)
and 11 children., followed by Thomas and America, and son Ellis, followed by Josiah and
Martha, wirh children Minus and William.
Finally in 1880, he is in Marshall County TN (adjacent to Bedford) in District 8, as A.H. Marlin,
age 71 with N.K.age 57, with Children Murrell (Burrell), R.M. (Robert Miller), Catherine, Amanda,
Hiram, and Elbert (or Albert)
There are some Marlins in the 1850 census of Rutherford, but I haven't had the time to go back
and see if he is there. I understand he died in 1886 in Marshall County and is in Farmington
Cemetery there.
So yes, there are still a few bugs to be worked out, but I'm confident this bunch is up to the task.
P.S. Don't Know who the one is in Independence County that you found..
