Ginny,

I forgot to give you the info on your George W. Thompson so here it is.

He was bom in Caldwell County, Kentucky on November 24, 1836. He was the
son of William R. of Tennessee and Elizabeth Wells of Tennessee. George,
while practicing medicine i n Lawrence County, Arkansas in June of l86l ,
enlisted in Cornpany D, 7th Arkansas lnfantry, State Troops, serving a few
months. Then he answered the call for Confederate tr oops for 3 years.
He enlistedin the 10th Missouri L ight Artillery as an assistant surgeon.
He served l 2 months in Tennessee, Kentucky and Missouri. He retumed home on
a furlough and was obliged to remain there, for the Federals had taken p
ossession of the river. Later he enlisted in the 2nd Arkansas Cavalry as
assistant surgeon and operated in Arkansas and Missouri until the close. He
was on General Price's raid in Missouri and Kansas, and was captured in
Prairie County, Arkansas, just before the surrender. H e was held 4 days and
then released on accunt of his being a surgeon, was sent to Little Rock
within the city limits, here he remained until the final surrender. H e
lived in Fulton County, Baxter County, Boone County, Newton County then to
Cave Creek, Arkansas. He rnarried in 1865 in Lawrence County, Mary E.
Goforth of Giles County, Tennessee. He was in the drug and grocery business.
He died December 23,1907 and was buried in Westem Grove Cemeterv.

My listing of the 7th Ark Infantry did not list George as a member.
However, there was a Samuel M. Thompson who served as a surgeon in the 7th
Arkansas Infantry. He enlisted 7/20/1862. Brother perhaps?

I did not locate George on a roster of the 10th Missouri Light Artillery as
a surgeaon. But there is a Pvt. George W. Thompson listed as a member of Co
D, 1st Missouri Light Artillery. I also did not find him on a roster of the
2nd Ark Cavalry.
