On a beautiful fall day, September 26, 2009 Glenna Melton, age 82, passed away after a long illness and brief stay at The Gasseling House. Glenna was born on July 30, 1927 in Calico Rock, Arkansas to John and Lillian Speak. She married William Loren Melton on March 21, 1951 and they moved to the local area, Mrs. Melton worked for the Blue Ribbon Cannery and Snokist Growers, retiring after 32 years. She will be remembered for her wonderful making skills, especially homemade rolls and delicious desserts. Her hand-made quilts will be cherished by all members of the family. Even though she was less than a hundred pounds in recent years, the great-grandchildren lovingly referred to her as "Big Grandma." Glenna was able to enjoy a large family gathering earlier this month, we will miss you mother, Grandma, Big Grandma. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, William Loren Melton. She is also survived by her daughters, Marilyn Kay Ohlde (Dale), Mary Ann Poirier (Tim), and her son David Melton (Anita); her grandchildren, Dan, Sheila, Vicki, Quinton, and Bradley; great-grandchildren include Makaylah, Ava, Wyatt, and Katie.
