As many of you know, I live in Huntsville (north Alabama) and
was in the center of the Alabama "tornado alley" for last week's
tornados. It all began last Wednesday afternoon when an EF-5
tornado (200-200 mph winds) hit Hackleburg and Phil Campbell
Alabama (real names folks, no kidding) and did massive damage.
This was followed in rapid succession by four EF-4 tornadoes across
north Alabama, all travelling in a north-easterly direction, mostly
just NW of Huntsville. The last one, about 4:30 p.m., crossed
the Tennessee River near Decatur and the Brown's Ferry Nuclear
Power Plan and demolished several of the steel transmission line
towers and severing the connection from the power plant to the
transmission line to Huntsville and all points east. At the same
time, other tornadoes were crossing south of us and damaging
cities such as Tuscaloosa (Univ of Alabama) and many other cities.
By the next day, over 200 people were dead and over and thousands
were without power, just in our county alone.
We lost power last Wednesday afternoon about 4:30 and it just
came back on a few minutes ago (6 days without electricity)
We are o. k. here, no damage in our neighborhood but lots of
people we know had damage. After the storms came through,
we had over 200,000 people in our county out of power,
due to 311 transmission towers down. So, we just hunkered down,
a neighbor loaned me a one-burner propane stove and we used
candles so be got by o.k. Huntsville Utilities did a good job, but
had to depend on TVA, which just distributed it out a little at a
time as they got their capabilities back. God is good!!!!!!....Harold
