Thanks so much for the reply. I missed it until this week, and so am late in responding. I haven't yet digested all the resources you mention, but I'll consider them further.

As for the area being a prosperous farming area, I've found it very interesting that so many young men decided, immediately after the war, that it was time to move west. Furthermore, it's more interesting (and comforting, in terms of reconciliation) how many southerners came north, and how many northerners moved south.

> If I am not mistaken, the 126th was down at St. Charles during the Civil War.

I'll check the regiment's history, but that sounds promising -- thanks!

> Have you checked out that Illinois Civil War site? It is quite good.

What site is that? There are so many (and, yes, I've found a lot of good ones). But if you have another to recommend, I'm game!

> I always figured that Hagerman was the ancestor of the family by that surname at Stuttgart.

I'm not an expert on this; I'm researching all the Moultrie recruits, rather than a specific family. However this may be an area of interest in the future, as I'm interested in Moultrie history generally, and the Hagermans, led by Samuel Rufus Harshman and his descendents, trod an interesting path through the community. (By way of explanation: I've read SRH's memoirs and, yes, I'm sympathetic).

> Where do you live anyway??

In the west suburbs of Atlanta, GA. I'm a Sullivan native, and lived in Illinois until the early eighties.

>5th generation in Lonoke County

5th generation in Moultrie (except that I don't live there any more. Gotta fix that!)

Best regards,

Greg
