Have you used the Saline County Genealogy Page through Rootsweb? It can be found at:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~arsaline/

Once at the page, click on the Cemeteries. The Old Rosemont Cemetery there used to be called the Ransom Thompson Cemetery. The opening paragraph telling about the cemetery even mentions your Ambrose THOMPSON and his wife Rachel HOCKERSMITH. However, it does not list their graves that I could see.

The Saline County Genealogy Page also has a "pico" search engine. Input Ambrose and search. It's less common and you can then check the results. Since, however, the initials only were often used; the next step would be Thompson or Hockersmith.
