Hi Everyone,

Welcome to the new Ashdown-UK mailing list. I am Mary Rogers (nee
Ashdown), the list owner and am contactable most of the time at this
address if you have any problems or questions you would like to speak to me
privately about.
We now have 12 subscribers so it is a good time to get an idea of what you
would like to see (or make) happen.

My initial aim is to try to assemble all of the data about we can gather
about the Ashdown family and it's origins in the UK into one place and for
this purpose I have also started building a very basic ASHDOWN web site
http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~rogers/
(don't take any notice of the actual address, it should save in your
bookmarks or favourites as Ashdown Title Page).
I will try to add a counter, guestbook and so forth in the near future. I
just put the basics together last night.

This is my first mailing list and I am a novice at web pages so please be
patient with me. I know I will make (quite a few) mistakes so any help,
assistance or constructive critisism you can offer will be much appreciated.

The mailing list and web page will only be as successful as we can make
it. Under Rootsweb freepages guidelines, we can't put GED files on our web
site. They have to go on other Rootsweb pages like
http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/
but feel free to submit to any of the other sections I have set up or
suggest others.

ANY snippets that are about or concern Ashdown's in the UK (providing we
can use it legally) will be included on the web site with sources if
available - but please keep it to pre 1910 so we don't upset too many of
the living.

You will need to send it to me for inclusion (and I am a bit nervous about
viruses) so can you make sure you send an accompanying e-mail with details
of what it is and how you would like to see it on the web site (section,
format etc) if you have a preference.

I think that's about it for now. Just remember the basic rules of the
mailing lists - no flaming, no virus warnings, stick to the subject of the
mailing list and we should be ok.

Kind regards,

Mary
