Dave,
I have Ashtons in Blackburn.
I think that mine started off being Catholics.
William Ashton born in 1795 to William and Margaret Ashton.
William married Victoire Caudray from France.
He moved away to Heywood in about 1830, but I presume his family remained at Blackburn.
Regards
Bryan Ashton

I've recently started reseraching my family history and I've manage to trace the Ashton side of it back to a Lawrence Ashton who would have been born in Blackburn around 1863.
If anyone has information about Lawrence Ashton, or Ashtons living in Blackburn around that time, or if your research coincides with mine, I'd love to hear from you.
Thanks,
Dave
