Hello all, I have probably already been in touch with some of you in my
search on the ATWOOD surname, but for the sake of record I will post my
line here. I especially found the entry on Nicholas Atwood m. Olive
Harman interesting as I have several Atwoods with various spellings of
Harmon/Harman as their middle name in my line. A possible clue? I
certainly hope so! The John Atwood b. 1761-1762 listed below may have
come from New England, but I don't know that! There are a number of
Atwoods in New England in the 1600s who must have been Puritans. About
the revolution there was at least one family of Atwoods in Virginia.
What we have so far is a John Atwood who was robbed by the Indians
as he crossed the Indian nations in Miss. Territory in 1807.
The next time he shows up is in Pike? Co. on the 1810 Census.
He moved up to Lincoln Co. and a few members of the family moved
northward well before the Civil War, among them Henry P. Atwood
born in early 1800s. It seems to me that all the Atwoods in MS
came from John Atwood. Please contact me if anyone connects with the
