"I took a few days off from the computer and took
a quick trip to Plymouth. Was I in for a treat.
First stop was in Plymouth, Burial Hill, where I
found 5-6 Atwood graves, right next to Gov.
Bradford's monument and Wm. Bradford's grave. Then
on to Carver, MA, where I actually found Lakenham
and the graveyard there. Although I found 5-6 Atwoods
together in one area, the gravestones were very
weathered, I also found Capt. Wm. Atwood's grave,
in Lakenham (off Route 58) which was completely
legible. Most importantly, at the Pilgrim Museum,
they are commemorating the founding of the museum,
and I found an oil painting of Abby Atwood Schurtleff
Shaw exhibited. The exhibit is on till Oct. Can
someone tell me how she is related?"

I suspect she is Abigail (Atwood) Shurtleff, born
7 Oct 1755 to Nathaniel and Abigail (Shaw) Atwood.
She married Benjamin Shurtleff in 1773. It was
their son Benjamin Shurtleff who wrote a number
of books on family genealogy. He was also a well
respected physician and member of the NEHGS.

Now Nathaniel Atwood was the son of Nathaniel and
Mary (Morey) Atwood, who in turn was the son of
John Atwood (Jr) of Plimoth Colony.
