1844 stampless folded letter about ships and cargo mailed from FRANKFORT, Maine to capt. John atwood, care A. Kurtland, No. 205 South Street, NEW YORK. **Postal cancel is a circle red FRANKFORT Me. with written 25 (cents) postage rate at right. (A lot of money in 1844). 2 1/2 page letter.
**Hole at edge 2nd pg where opened at red seal, a few tiny holes behind address fold and some minor coffee? stains. Letter looks good and no real problems.
Letter headed Frankfort Jan. 1st - 1844. 2 1/2 pg letter from Capt John atwood's brother Nathaniel Atwood. He says he wrote a few days ago that the Hylas left Prospect last Tues but he heard she was there Wed. Talks about spars knees ptoatoes afloat, retail prices, selling prospects, , buy low and ship at low prices,, you must be sly as a cat & let no one know where the knees are and other behind the scenes talk about cargo, etc. I think the Knees is a ship. (Good letter)./
