Thank you, Dick. In the 1850 census, Elizabeth was shown to be 43 yrs.
old, making her dob estimated at 1807. In 1860, Betsy was 55, making her
dob abt. 1805. Given that they may each be off a year, and that she may be
one and the same person, I would estimate her dob to be 1806, or about 3
years younger than my Margaret Atwood Acord.

Now, whether Elizabeth/Betsy was married or not is unknown, as I have not
found any record so far. I don't know what connection if any was with the
John & Martha Davis family, but perhaps I should look for his marriage to
determine his wife's maiden name? Their neighbor was probably their son,
John & Rachel Corken Davis. I found this marriage in the Ross County
archives, but John & Martha are not there. My next guess would be Muskingum
County, but I didn't find these Davises in census records there.

If you have any suggestions, I would appreciate hearing them. I am open to
almost any research ideas, and if need be, I could travel in the state of
Ohio.

Thanks for your feedback. Elaine Tipton

Elaine,
Betsy is a nickname for Elizabeth. So, a good chance your Elizabeth and
Betsy are the same. How do their ages compare?

Trevor,
I have been trying to connect my Margaret Atwood to a family for almost 4
years, and I was wondering whether you may have any helpful information to
share. What I have is as follows:

Margaret Atwood b. abt 1803 VA m. John Acord (Eker) 28 Jul 1822 in Muskingum
Co., OH.
The only Atwoods I find living in Muskingum Co. at that time are Tabitha
Atwood (a widow) and Cornelius Atwood.

In 1843 John & Margaret bought land in Pike Co., Ohio and moved to near
Richmondale, Ross Co., OH. There, in 1850 was an Elizabeth Atwood, b. abt.
1807, living with the John Davis family, and in 1860 a Betsy Atwood, b. abt.

1805, was living in with Smith & Lydia Landrum. Lydia was the daughter of
Margaret Atwood Acord. This leads me to believe that Betsy was a relative.

I wonder whether Elizabeth & Betsy are the same person?

I have a death certificate that shows that Margaret Atwood was the mother of
Wesley Acord. Wesley was the brother of my 2nd gr-grandfather, James
Madison Acord, Sr., and this family is shown in the 1850 census with 8 of
the 10 children (Lydia & John Jr. had already grown and left home).

I can find no documents other than her marriage and the death of her son
Wesley. I find no burial records in Ross County, although that is where she
lived her life out. She died sometime after the 1870 census, where she is
found as a widow living with another daughter, Margaret Elizabeth Acord
O'Brien in Twin twp. John had died sometime after the 1860 Twin twp. census
was taken.

Anything you may have to guide me in the right direction would be extremely
appreciated. Any tidbit that may hold a clue would be wonderful.

I will anxiously await your reply. If you would like more info, please ask.

I will share all that I have in order to find a family for Margaret
Atwood
Acord, my 3rd gr-grandmother. Thank you.

Elaine Tipton
