Hi Irene,

Me too !

I have heard that Chinese workers were employed to
construct the railway tunnels through the Sugarloaf Ranges
on the Richmond Vale Railway. I was wondering whether
anyone could confirm this as there doesn't seem to be much
information/acknowledgement out there for this important
work of the early 20th >Century.

Are 3 major railway tunnels on the Main Northern Line
between Hornsby & Woy Woy. These were built late 1870's -
late 1880's . While I have read quite alot about this I
dunno about whether any Chinese people were employed ?

Have just re read some info I have on this " Were never
less than 600 men working on the construction of the Woy
Woy tunnel . Work started in 1883 and was completed in
1888 .......... They worked by the light of candles .
That sounds like very hard yakka ............ Doesnt
have any ref to any Chinese ?, but I guess that doesnt not
mean there werent any

Bye
