Dear Lois,

Just a note to keep in touch. I have noted below the two websites
relative to the current studies in Cowra.

Cowra Community Heritage Study is at:

www.heritagearchaeology.com.au/Cowra/Cowra%20Heritge%20Study.htm

and the website for the Archaeology of the Cowra Prisoner of War Camp is
at:

www.heritagearchaeology.com.au/Cowra/POW%20Camp/Cowra%20POW%20Camp.htm

I appreciate your interest.

Kind regards,

Jennifer

I may well have already spoken with a colleague of yours about one
aspect of my interest - but I think Dr Jan Lingard would have told
you all she knows about the Indonesians who were interned at Cowra.
You will be including the celebration of Heroes Day by the Indonesian
community and friends, late in each year, and probably are already in
touch with knowledgeable people such as Anvida Lamberts and Wahdi
Yudhi, about this commemoration.

I worked as an instructor in English in several migrant camops in the
immediate postwar years - but not Cowra! However, in my book "A real
situation: the story of adult migrant education in Australia 1947 to
1970", Cowra is mentioned especially in the chapter on Holding
Centres, eg on pp.119-122, 126-127. Two instructors who taught
briefly at Cowra would be willing to tell you of their experiences -
both are close friends of mine.

I have a Russian-born friend in the Canberra area who might be
willing to talk to you - she was a child in Cowra Camp.

My granddaughters have a "first favorite" among the many attractions
of a trip to Cowra - those little graves of Slavonic children.

Let me know if I can assist.

Lois Carrington
