Hi Bec

I don't often see people directly connected with my family...but your Nan
was my 4th cousin once removed and we are connected at least once through
our common ancestor William Green (convict) and Thomas & Jane Rose (the
first family of free settlers to Australia) . You are descended to more
convicts than you will probably wish for :) - Samuel Craft being just one
of them. Most of your convicts have been claimed on my Claim a Convict web
site.

Subject: [AUS-CON] The CRAFTS of Mangrove Mountain,
EVERINGHAM,RYMES,GREEN or GIEBLER???

Hi everyone!
My name is Rebecca, I'm 25 and from Sydney, NSW. I have recently started
tracking down my family ancestry and thought it might be worthwhile to
contact this list to help me with my search. Thankfully I have an Auntie who
has done a lot of the hard yakka for me but I am really trying to find out
as much as I can myself. This is what I know so far..
My Grandmothers ancestry has been traced back to the first fleet of Convicts
with Matthew James EVERINGHAM coming out here on the "Scarborough" in 1787.
He married Elizabeth RYMES (who was also deported to Oz on the Second or
Third fleet) in 1791. I have traced the family from that point all the way
to my Nana- Patsy Dorothy CRAFT.
Currently I am seeking any information on the Crafts at Mangrove Mountain
which was the home of my Great-Grandfather George Clyde Craft (1896-1990)
and his parents Albert Henry Craft and Sarah Jane GREEN. Apparently the
house they lived in at Mangrove Mountain now lies at the bottom of a dam and
the house (before it went under obviously) featured in an Australian film
named either "Inn of the Dam", which I can find no record of, or "Inn of the
Damned" which is a more likely choice as I have found record of it (movie
was made in 1974) but as the movie was set in Gippsland,Vic I'm not
convinced this is the same house. And it was a really tragic horror movie.
If anybody out there recognises any of these names or places or perhaps
assist me in the way of the best sites to look at, it would be greatly
appreciated.
I am also wondering if there are any comprehensive sites out there that
provide more insight as to personal information regarding the first, second
and third fleet convicts. After conquering Mangrove Mountain I plan to
direct my research towards tracing my English history back from my convict
relatives so any hints there would be very much appreciated too.
And to throw one last name in..could anyone provide me with any insight as
to where the surname GIEBLER would come from? It is my Grandfathers' mothers
surname and no one in my family has been able to trace its origins as yet.

Thankyou for taking the time to read this post.
Kind regards
Rebecca
