Hi Martin

The transport "Charlotte" arrived with the rest of the First Fleet in January
1788 and Richard died in December 1788 - which to some could mean 'soon
afterwards"

Can anyone tell me the date of arrival of this ship from England at Port
Jackson, in about 1788? The records I have seen so far mention May 1787
as the date Richard WILCOCKS was transported on the Charlotte, and a
recent contact on this list told me he arrived in Port Jackson and died
soon afterwards, buried on 16 Dec 1788, so my presumption is that the
ship arrived in the latter part of 1788. Was a year and a half typical
for such voyages? It seems rather long to me, if the purpose was just
for transportation.
