Hi Michelle
I found this link http://parishmaps.lands.nsw.gov.au/pmap.html just type in
Minto in the search box and then go to the page 1 map
I don't know what year this map is from but I lived central area of the map
where Catherine Field is today.
>From the map the old parish of Minto covered a much wider area than today.
It appears to be bounded by Bringelly Road (Leppinton to Bringelly), Old
Northern Rd (Bringelly to Narellan) across to Georges River.
My ancestor Laurence Moore was a convict in the area from 1822 to 1826
assigned to a man named Campbell (I assume to be associated with the name
Campbelltown) on the property Harrington Park (now part of a new housing
estate of the same name)which stretched from Old Northern Rd to Cobbitty Rd,
he was listed as being a Ploughman, I guess that meant farm worker
You will probably find more in the Colonial Secretaries Letters
I hope this helps
Regards Peter Moore

What kind of work would a convict that was a labourer be sent to do in the
Minto area (Liverpool-NSW) around 1825-1830. I am interested in finding out
more about Thomas Benton a convict that absconded in 1830. Would a convict
family be given land before they earned a ticket of leave? Also, can anyone
tell me where the original lower Minto area was located.

Hallo,
I'm trying to get some more info on my 1st cousim 3x removed. Charles
Minter, transported to Swan River Colony on Racehorse, arrived Fremantle 10
Aug 1865. T of L on 10 Jul 1869 and C of F 5 Aug 1873 at York.
He possibly left Australia for UK on 14 Jan 1875 (Thanks Kim Milne for this
info). Here the trail ends. I can't find anything more in the UK.
Is it possible to find out:-
a) his medical reports when he was a prisoner?
b) his conduct reports ditto?
c) what was he doing between 5 Aug. 1873 (T of L) and 14 Jan. 1875
(departure to UK)?
d) name and ports of call of the ship he left W Australia on? If it was W,
Australia.
Any help would be appreciated. Unfortunately, although I would love to do
it, I can't visit W Australia from deepest Cornwall.myself. The cost would
be rather high!!!

Thanks for the photo....it is so beautiful...
Yes you have answered all my questions, Neville.
Actually, for some reason I thought there may have been a connection between
your Tysons and my Tysons...must have misunderstood your letters.
Just one more question if I may...
How can I prove who William's parents were?
His death date, January, 1827, suggests a birth year of 1782.
If he followed the naming tradition, then one would expect his eldest son to
have been named Henry.
Thank you again, Neville for all your very kind help and for the records and
marvellous photos.
Gloria
