Rae,

There doen't seem to be any record of him on the Constance -in fact no visit
from that ship in 1854. Have you seen the original document for his
naturalisation? Could the 4 actually be a 1? The Constance did arrive in
1851.

There doesn't seem to be any record of him among the passengers of the
Constance however is it possible he was crew?

The other possibility is that he lied on his naturalisation papers. People
did it all the time to cover up various indiscretions. He may have arrived
in Port Arthur and sailed across.
