Beverley,
Hope your kind offer is still on the 'board'. I have just received some
information from England and not sure where to start.
I have just discovered that an ancestor, Andrew Alexander who came to Sydney
as a soldier in the Queens Own 50th Regiment of Foot, on board the 'Lady
Nugent' 1835, sometime in 1837/38 was sent to Norfolk Island (still as a
private in the army) he was discharged in 31/8/1839 by paying 5 pounds and
he was still at Norfolk Island at the time. Is it possible to find out what
ship he went to Norfolk Island on and which ship would have brought him
home?
Did the Army keep separate records for the transfer of soldiers or would
they just appear as normal passengers, or would they be crew if they were
guarding prisoners?
I'm not sure whether the Maritime Museum would have this sort of information
however don't know who would. Hope you can help me.
Kind Regards
Judith

> Good Morning from Tannum Sands, Queensland. I do not know whether you have
access to the Log of Logs which names and describes shipping vessels. As a
member of the maritime museum, I do, and I would be so happy to try and
return favours. The info would not be same day and fortunately ( or
unfortunately, which ever may be the case in point) I shall be away from
here until the end of June but if useful please let me know. Kindest wishes
to all researchers and admin. Beverley
