Sydney 'Doc' Cunningham OAM died on 22nd March, 1999, aged 72. He will be
missed by all, especially the Aboriginal kids, and around Christmas time.
His face came to the forefront in 1974 when he helped those devastated by
Cyclone Tracy in Darwin. He carried on since then despite not being a well
man.
In 1982 he was named Anzac of the Year and NADOC honoured him as Aboriginal
of the Year in 1987.
'Doc' was awarded his Order of Australian Merit in 1989.
National Aboriginal Council chairman Lyall Munro said:"Doc was a giver. The
world is full of takers but Doc was a giver."
