My Grandfather, William Edward Hickson was admitted to Meteor Park Orphanage on 10th Septermber, 1911. Since applying to Freedom of Information, in relation to Grandads files, I have learned that his mother- Ellen Gray - was described on paperwork as a 1/2 caste aborigine.
Ellen`s first child, Ellen (Nellie) was admitted to the same orphanage in January, 1907, but there was no connection at all to each other, in the orphanage .
While looking at the library`s records, I came across Isabella- born 18/09/11 then deceased on 5/11/11 and Jack born 22/08/14 whose mother`s name was Ellen Gray. My records show that she was working as a domestic servant in a hotel. I am wondering where the name GRAY came from. So far I am unable to find a Birth or Death Certificate for Ellen. I would love to find out more . Can you help me?
