Hi,
I am looking for more information on a Horace Bastings who arrived in
Melbourne on the ship "Medway" in 1849.
Apparently he was a miner and storekeeper in the Victorian gold diggings,
most likely at Ballarat. I presume that is right.
Horace was also a mayor of Northcote and Brunswick, and he had a brother
Harold who became Mayor of of Northcote later on.
Also from the notes that I have, Horace along with a George Duncan built the
first tramway on Sydney's North Shore.
He also built a railway from Bacchus Marsh Victoria to Ballarat.
Can anyone confirm when Horace was mayor of Northcote and Brunswick? And
also when abouts he built the Tramway?
Of course any other information or known relatives is much appreciated.
Horace was born 1831 in Islington, London? England and Died 1909 Auckland
New Zealand.
Thanks
Brendon
