Subject: [AUS-MELB] OWEN in Melbourne
Date: Thu, 5 Jul 2001 14:12:01 +0100 (BST)
Where do I start looking?
My grandfather, Hugh OWEN (born 1887, Holyhead, Wales) had 4 older
brothers. We know that his eldest brother, William (b 1876) stayed in
Holyhead and we believe 2 of the others jumped ship in Melbourne, probably
in the early 1900s. Possible names are Owen John OWEN (b 1878), Edward
OWEN (b 1882), Thomas OWEN (b 1884).
Various family stories say they became farmers or entered the licensed
trade and that they may have changed their names. One had a son who was in
the Australian Army and visited the family in Holyhead just before or
during WWII.
Any advice gratefully appreciated.
Denise
