Hi Brian

These girls had a brother too Henry Griffith LAYARD b 1871

Would appear the reason these girls were living with an aunt in
Gloucester in 1881 was their father had died in Australia ........ aged
53 b Ceylon d 1873 # 7971 son of Chas Edw and Barbara
He didnt leave a will

Vic bdm indexes have been on line for quite a while and recently they had
a site upgrade and you can now download copies of certs for just A$17.50

http://tinyurl.com/yrs42

Is the site. If you got copy of his death cert that would give you the
date and then perhaps a local could check Melbourne newspapers for a death
/funeral notice ?

Maybe Albert Wm and Barbara went back to Ceylon ? There is a very
good mailing list for India
Presumably you have checked Burkes and Debretts volumes ?

Bye

after the marriage (e.g. I cannot find them in the 1901 Census of England
and Wales, nor in Free BMDs). It occurred to me that they might have
emigrated to Australia, to Melbourne

Dont think so no VIC BDM records to back that up to

(where Barbara was born). Perhaps a member of the list knows the family.
There might be Layards in Victoria today who know what happened to the
FREND couple.
