I am looking for any one connected to the LAVIDGE family who came to
Melbourne on the "Nelson" in 1848 . Some returned to England and came
out again on the "Shackamaxon" in 1855 .
I am descended from Eliza LAVIDGE who married James HARRISON whom she
met on the "Shackamaxon" .
It is her sister Mary who interest me at the moment as she led an
interesting life.
Mary married Johnson BISHOP in 1850 and although there is no record of
the birth of her 2 daughters Caroline and Hannah with him, I know they
exist from a mention in the Supreme Court action of 1903 .
BISHOP then disappears off the face of the earth although it is said he
drowned , but I haven't found anything.He was possibly a sea pilot
according to family. She then marries William FARMER in 1857 and has 7
children around Avoca and Daylesford. She died in childbirth in 1871.
I have found LAVIDGE as SAVIDGE ,LABIDGE or SABIDGE .
The other names connected with the family are GRIFFITHS and
HOOPER(Ann),SMERDON and ARMSTRONG (Elizabeth),BICKERDIKE (Caroline),
WILKEN (Charlotte) and BATTERHAM (John)
The other son Levi drowned at Moonee Ponds in Dec 1848 age 15 .
Cheers
Aileen
