Hi Jan,
If you don't get an answer here, I'd suggest you join Vicnet's "My Connected
Community"
http://mc2.vicnet.net.au/ and then subscribe (for free) to the "History
Victoria Support Group" an RHSV standing committee which specialises in
matters concerning the operation of historical societies and museums. You'd
be better off there than on a family history forum. There are lots of people
knowledgeable on these sorts of subjects, and using the very archival pens
you are interested in. There's a forum where you can ask your question.
Vicnet requires interested parties to subscribe to ensure that their service
is being used by Victorians, to avoid spam, to ensure that email addresses
cannot be vacuumed up by robots, and to enable troublesome persons to be
dealt with quickly. There are all manner of "My Connected Communities".
You can browse before you join. I'd recommend everyone have a look.
The historical-related groups are listed under "Society and Culture -
history". Genealogy groups are listed under "Health and Family -
genealogy".
"My Connected Community" or mc2 can be a little bit tricky for the first
timer. If you decide to join mc2, you need to bookmark the first page
before you start so you can come back to that page to log in each time.
Once you've joined (and you need to have an address in Victoria to get
accepted), you then choose which community you want to belong to, and click
on "join this group".
Once you've done that you have to wait until the owner or moderator of the
group accepts your membership, and then you can see all the material in that
group.
You can also use mc2 to build yourself a simple website. Just follow the
instructions.
A highly recommended electronic community for Victorians.
