Hi Lynne,
As I understand it, the marriage was registered in both 1855 and 1871.
(Note this does not mean it occurred in both years). This could have
been because in 1871 the marriage registration could not be found for
some reason and it was assumed that it wasn't registered. The second
reason is that the registration showed information that was incorrect.
You often see re-registrations where there has been a spelling mistake
in the surname of one of the parties. Perhaps in 1871 she needed a
marriage certificate to prove an inheritance. There are a host of
reasons why it would be an issue in 1871. You also often see
re-registrations of births when a person gets married.

Could a more knowledge lister please tell me what an entry on the
Pioneer
Index Victoria 1836-1888 means before I buy the wrong certificate.
I am looking for a marriage of Susannah WATTS b 1834 and I have found 2
one
in 1855 the other in 1871 they have almost the same Reg No the first
2499x187 the other 2499.
As far as I know Susannah worked in the Portland area in 1853 if that
is a
clue and came from Norfolk.
Thanks
Lynne
